Painting line for acoustic ceiling and wall panels

We carried out an extension of the acoustic ceiling and wall panel production line, which consists of conveyors, coating machine, step furnace, and other auxiliary equipment.

First, a panel formatted to the required size is transported to edge painting, then continues to the step furnace, from which it leaves to shipping. The panels are used not only in offices, but also in other interiors where users appreciate the excellent acoustic properties.

In cooperation with the step furnace supplier Moldow and the machine construction supplier TMT, we delivered a complete turnkey safe automation system from the development of a digital twin for the step furnace, through the creation of project documentation, application software, and the manufacture of electrical cabinets to installation and commissioning at the final customer.

Customer requirements

The customer required an expansion of its product portfolio and a faster technological process while maintaining the maximum quality of the product and safety for operating personnel.

Solution design

The production line is controlled by a Simatic S7-1517TF-3PN/DP safety PLC. The decentralized concept uses ET200SP peripherals including F-DI/F-DO that communicate via Profinet LAN and Profisafe. Technological units in the PLC are used to control the conveyors and other axes. There are approximately 60 servo drives in the line, which are controlled by Siemens Sinamics S120 and S210 frequency converters. The operation of the line uses Siemens Unified TP1500 and TP1200 touch panels respectively. In order to understand the function of the individual mechanisms and to present them to the specific customer, a 3D digital twin of the step furnace was processed using the Siemens PLM Tecnomatix Plant Simulation software tool and subsequently used for the virtual commissioning of the application software.
